Sr Crea Gallagher (M. Patricia) RIP
26 JULY 2019 | GENERAL INTEREST
Sr Crea Gallagher was a member of a well known Kedron family. Her grandfather and father were both property owners, civic identities, and master tanners who operated businesses within the Kedron area. Sr Crea and her sister Dawn both became MFIC Sisters as did her cousins Sr M Teresita Felsman and Sr M Vianny O’Toole.
Sr Crea ministered mainly in the area of education. She was known as Sr M Patricia in religious life. Sr Crea was a foundational teacher at Mt Alvernia College at Kedron, where she later served as Principal. She was the foundation Principal at Marymount College at Burleigh Waters. Sr Crea also taught at St John’s Silkwood before moving to Cairns where she formed part of the foundational leadership team of St Gerard Majella Primary School in Woree with Sr Celine O’Donovan..
After leaving Cairns, Srs Crea and Celine moved to Evans Head where they were involved in pastoral ministry for the the next nine years. Following the death of Sr Celine, Sr Crea returned to Kedron where she ministered to the Sisters who were in aged care facilities, often visiting twice a day to ensure that meals were eaten.
Crea left instructions that she was not to be eulogised after her death. No stories were to be told. This was considered a great shame by her Sisters who loved to recount stories of Crea’s love of fast driving and her interactions with the police and other hindrances such as traffic islands and signs.
Crea was a woman of deep faith and selfless service. She was a strong personality who gave herself with great passion to all she undertook. She was generous and kind. May she rest in peace.
