Archbishop John Bathersby
11 MARCH 2020 | GENERAL INTEREST
The Missionary Franciscan Sisters note with great sadness the death of Archbishop Bathersby. We offer our deepest sympathy to Archbishop Mark Coleridge and the clergy of the Archdiocese, to his family and friends, to clergy and people of the Dioceses of Toowoomba and Cairns, and to all who knew and loved Archbishop John.
We remember with great affection Archbishop Bathersby’s simple, humble, and friendly approach, his love of his family and firends, his rural heritage, love of nature and the bush, and his dedication to his many ministerial roles during his long years of service.
Many of the Sisters remember him as a spiritual director at the seminary and lecturer in spirituality where he was a deeply spiritual mentor and witness. We remember him too as “our Bishop” in his roles as Bishop of Cairns and Archbishop of Brisbane. He was a true pastor and shepherd.
We pray for eternal rest and peace for Archbishop John, and for comfort and peace for the many family and friends who loved him well.
Rest in peace Archbishop John.
