International Formation Program
We
share some wonderful news by introducing two special women:
Hortense Fanga
Hortense is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and
came to know of our sisters through the website of the Canadian Sisters.
She had wanted to be a sister for many years but because of her father's
disapproval of this way of life she did not pursue the call until after
his death. She is a primary school teacher and taught in Kinshasa
for two years. Hortense is a very mature woman in her mid thirties.
Christine Ngyelo
Christine, a young woman in her late twenties, also
from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, met our sisters also through
the website. She too is a primary school teacher, but because of
the upheaval in the Congo she was not being paid, so she left teaching
to do community work.
These young women have already embarked on the journey to become Missionary
Franciscan Sisters. Danielle Julien, one of our Canadian sisters,
had been corresponding with them for several months by e-mail and was
able to introduce them to each other. They became firm friends
and shared the same frustration and anxiety in applying for their visas
to enter Egypt.
Finally they arrived in Cairo for a "Come
and See" experience,
where they participated in prayer and ministry as well as attending English
classes. Sr Elaine, General Minister, met them on one of her visits
and was impressed with their attitude and depth of spirituality. Both
of them have now been accepted into the program of formation at St
Clare’s
Heliopolis, Cairo, under the direction of Sister Anna Gallant from the
Canadian Province.
