Who am I and what do I do?
After a life spent in education and in the governance of our Institute
here and overseas, I now have responsibility in Australia for the frail
and aged sisters.
My ministries outside the community are
- school support services and
- hospital chaplaincy.
Where do I carry out my ministry?
I live in Brisbane and go out to Mt Alvernia College which is a Catholic
college with a Franciscan Tradition in Kedron, and to the Royal Brisbane
and Women’s Hospital.
What Franciscan values underpin what I do?
Both my ministries are “minor” in the sense that both minister
to people deemed unimportant – the hospital poor and the school
disadvantaged. Thus the two ministries center on respect for people
as they are, and this respect allows the people to find God their own
way rather than my imposing my beliefs on them.
Within the team of chaplains at the hospital I try to support the two
Franciscan secular members. I take part in the prayer initiatives
and am especially concerned to maintain a sincere friendship with the
other members of this ecumenical team.
“Blessed
are they who love another who is sick and seemingly useless,
as much as when that brother or sister I well and of service to them.”
