What is my ministry?
After a lifetime spent in education both primary and secondary here
and in Papua New Guinea I am now enjoying a pastoral ministry.
Where do I minister?
In the Delamore Retirement Community established and run by our sisters
here on our property at Kedron in Brisbane. I visit each resident
in her serviced apartment or unit. Our informal conversations help
them to become more familiar with their close neighbours and they are
united in prayer for others in their special needs. This
helps to strengthen the family atmosphere which is very strong at Delamore.
On Sunday I lead a Communion Service for those who are unable to come
to the Chapel or go to the parish church. Some residents
are unable to leave their rooms so I bring the Eucharist to them but
others gather in a sitting room to create a small faith community for
sharing their thoughts on the readings of the day.
What Franciscan values underpin how I minister?
The residents of the retirement community are all a part of our Franciscan
family here and it is our hope that each one will find in this community
the physical, communal and spiritual support that is needed for this
phase of their life journey. This attitude of hospitality,
inclusivity and loving kindness is basic to Franciscan community living.
“The
brothers and sisters are to love the Lord with their whole heart,
with their whole soul and mind, and with all their strength,
and to love their neighbour as themselves.
Let them glorify the Lord in all they do.”
