Who am I?
I am one of two New Zealanders who have entered our institute. Much
of my religious life ministry has been centred around music as I taught
piano and guitar to individuals and groups in our schools here in Queensland.
However, I also spent several very happy years in a pastoral ministry
in Central Australia at Tennant Creek and after completing my studies
as a Chaplain in Perth I was happy to be sent to England since my family
came from there to Rotorua NZ. In England I worked with the residents
of our Nursing Home in Braintree, Essex. After returning
to Australia I had a very fulfilling ministry working at Prince Charles
Hospital in the psychiatric ward. I now live in our convent
in the grounds of the Delamore Residential Community which is run by
our sisters.
What do I do now?
I have several ministries – all of which centre round my creative
gifts which still bring pleasure and relaxation to many people:
- I give a one hour recital each month to the Delamore residents
- I play the piano at Kedron Nursing Home for the residents there and
I also play each week at the Samaritan Group for the aged and others
who come for bingo
- I partner residents of Delamore at snooker and visit them in their
units
- I write letters to both Catholic and non-Catholic people from WA,
England, Hamilton, New Zealand, Morwell and Bribie Island whom I have
met over the years
- I paint personalised cards which give pleasure to the individuals
who receive them and create paintings which brighten the homes of those
who receive them through sales or as gifts
- I do a lot of needlework, tapestry, fancywork, crocheted rugs that
I give away.
What values underpin my ministry?
Francis was a person who reached out to others and he especially demonstrated joy in
his life. In all that I do I hope to give pleasure to others
by uplifting their spirits and through my activities I demonstrate my gratitude to
God for all the gifts He has given me.
“The sisters and brothers whom the Lord
has called to the life of contemplation,
with a daily renewed joy,
should manifest their dedication to God
and celebrate the Father’s love for the world.”
